August Sessions
This August let your child’s imagination run wild with our Woodland Wonders experiences. From discovering the fascinating world of butterflies, uncovering the secrets of our magnificent trees to walking in Giant footsteps.
Designed for primary school aged children these hands on workshops will encourage your child to have fun in the great outdoors, creativity exploring the wonders of Davagh Forest!
Forest Explorers: Nature’s Hidden Patterns: Thursday 6 August : 11.30AM-12.30PM 🌳
Join us for a fun-filled woodland adventure designed for curious young explorers! Discover the hidden patterns and colours of the forest through hands-on activities and creative play. We’ll head outdoors to explore the woodland, create beautiful tree bark rubbings and take part in a nature scavenger hunt as we search for the many colours found in the forest. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore and create.
This event is suitable for primary school aged children. Please dress weather appropriate as activities will take place outdoors.
Ceoldán the Stargazer: Monday 10 August: 11.30AM to 12.30PM ✨
Go on a giant adventure with Ceoldan the Stargazer! Discover the story behind our famous giant, created by renowned artist Thomas Dambo using recycled materials, before heading back to the observatory to get creative. Using recycled boxes, bottles and other everyday materials, little hands can build their own miniature giant or even create a mini Ceoldan to take home as inspiration. It’s a fun, imaginative activity that shows how recycling can transform ordinary materials into something truly magical.
This event is designed for primary school aged children. Please dress weather appropriate, as parts of the session will take place outdoors.
Butterfly Workshop: Thursday 20 August: 11.30AM-12.30PM 🦋
Young nature enthusiasts are invited to join us for a wonderful morning learning all about butterflies! Find out about the lifecycles of butterflies, why these interesting insects are so important and the different types of beautiful butterflies we can see where we live.
This event is designed for primary school aged children and will include arts and crafts indoors as well as a short walk outside around the forest to see what butterflies we can spot. Please dress weather appropriate.

Monday 10 August- 11.30AM to12.30PM (Ceoldán the Stargazer)
Thursday 20 August- 11.30AM to 12.30PM (Butterfly Workshop)
Note: These are outdoor experiences, please dress your child weather appropriate.
Price: £4.20 per child. Designed for primary school age.
Each Woodland Wonders event is booked separately, so there’s no need to attend every session. Children are welcome to book the workshops that interest them most.
