Monthly Sessions
Join us at OM for one of our monthly Lunar Observing Sessions. When skies are clear we will observe the partially lit Moon using our range of telescopes and binoculars.
You will also visit our Observatory where we use our 14-inch Meade telescope and ZWO ASI2600MC imaging system to display a superb live view of the lunar surface. Always an enjoyable evening for all levels of astronomy enthusiasts – far away from light pollution in Northern Ireland’s only accredited Dark Sky Park.
If observing is not possible due to weather our alternative programme includes:
- A brief history of the Moon and its cultural significance.
- A deep dive into NASA’s lunar image archive.
- Exploring lunar alignments of Neolithic stone sites, such as Beaghmore Stone Circles.
- Discussion of the latest planned Lunar missions.
Next sessions:
Saturday 28 March – 7pm to 8.30pm
Note: Please be aware that observing is weather dependent. In the event that live observing isn’t possible, there will be alternative, lunar-themed demonstrations and activities in the observatory.
