October – Telescope Time! 🔭
Ever wondered how we can see so far into the universe? For our debut event of AstronOMy & Beyond, we’ll be travelling back in time to discover where telescopes began and explore how this incredible technology has developed to help us uncover the secrets of the universe. Find out how telescopes work, what they’re used for and how they help us explore everything from our own Solar System, to the most distant corners of the universe. Then it’s time to get creative and build a telescope of your very own!
November – Spinning Planets 🪐
Did you know how fast a planet spins can actually change its shape?At this month’s Astronomy & Beyond, we’ll discover how gravity and rotation work together to shape planets, and why faster-spinning worlds can become wider around their middle! Then we’ll put the science to the test with a fun hands-on experiment and see spinning planets in action!
December – Observing the Universe 🌌
Ever wondered what really happens inside an observatory? At this month’s Astronomy & Beyond, we’ll discover how observatories help us explore the universe, from using powerful telescopes to capturing incredible images of stars, planets and galaxies. We’ll be heading outdoors to use telescopes for ourselves, so please come prepared with a warm coat and appropriate footwear!
Please note, observing is weather dependent. In the event of poor weather an alternative activity will take place indoors
